I didn't really know where to start with this mix. 2024 was one of the best years for music in such a long time. Chappell, Remi, Charli, 2024 was just banger after banger. It has been crazy.
Usually I have a bit of a backlog, but after last year I kinda caught up, so I had to really explore for some new music. It wasn't too hard though.
Found PawPaw Rod and that kinda set the vibe for the mix. I fucking love this song, I want to buy a condo in that bass line. I want an IV that pumps that bass line into my veins. Ok I will stop.
Doechii has been new for me and is amazing. Fucking wow. There is a throw back vibe to many of her songs but also finding a way to make it new, which is the way.
A couple of songs that past me probably wouldn't put on a mix: Million Dollar Baby and Love Me Again. Because I am hipster snob and they are too polished in a way that past me would have seen as sell out or something. More "Love Me Again". I love good production (Charli) but this is so big that is on that edge of cliche. That being said I really like this song, it is so big and over the top that it is pure feels.
A little Royal Otis. This band is weird for me. It doesn't reach the heights of a Chappell or some other bands but consistently brings solid songs, a little Spoon-ish, which I dig. Nothing is forever and not everything can be life changing and this band falls into that category.
Then a little more indie with Sohie and Legs. Love both these tracks, especially Sophie by Black Polish. The vocals and drums just hit. Legs to me gives me old Cardigans vibes. It isn't but it brings me there a bit. Also I love the Cardigans.
